Music theater & improv
In every part of the world there are forms of art that integrate music and theater. Through upbeat theater/improv games and creative songwriting exercises, students will develop their own voice and learn to work together as an ensemble, using the strengths of each participant. By the end of the week, we'll have developed a script that will culminate in a final showcase performance of the students' work.
Open to all ages and all experience levels.
Latin Music & Dance
Learn about a variety of percussion instruments and their function in the many styles of dances and music such as salsa, cumbia, boleros, and cha cha. Through the congas, bongos, timbales, and many other hand-held percussion instruments, we will breakdown the important role of each instrument and piece together each rhythm to form an ensemble that can successfully carry out the characteristics of each style. Each day, we will spend a small portion of class learning to dance in these different styles to enhance our understanding of the relationship between the musician and dancer, as our goal is to create music that draws people to dance!
Ages 9+ with one year of private music instruction.
drums & percussion
Students will learn how to read music, left and right hand technique, rudiments, and improvisational skills. Students will also learn how to keep time and work with a metronome. Most importantly, this week will be lots of fun with percussion!
Ages 7+
Bach to basics: music, science, & history
Through the lens of music, learn about fractions, physics, history, and culture. From the discoveries of Pythagoras to the fusion of cultures that make up America, music gives us a fascinating way to view subjects from an artistic and accessible perspective.
